Permission based email marketing is an efficient and cheap way to stay in contact with your current and prospective customers. With effective content, you will gain loyalty, establish yourself as an industry leader and create a community around your company.
Laura Roeder, owner of Roeder Studios, suggests that customers are becoming so saturated with email marketing that there is a need to stand out. Laura goes on to explain:
One of our main marketing initiatives for the new year is a free community where I offer subscribers weekly bite-sized action items for boosting their web presence. Each week members receive an email with a detailed how-to with video instructions, and are then encouraging to go to our Facebook community to share their accomplishments and promote their business.
Email newsletters are a fantastic way to market for very little cost, but the problem is they are become over saturated. Many people receive so many newsletters that just contain an article. Articles can be useful but I wanted to give my community something more, something they could actually go out and USE right then and there plus a community to support them. In this down economy many businesses are turning to email marketing, so it’s important to ask how you can make your strategy offer something a little bit different that really offers value to your readers.
From my perspective, this allows me to get my brand in my audience’s inbox every week instead of hoping that they come to me. I’m the public face of my company so I write the emails in a conversational, first-person style. This allows readers to get to know ME instead of a faceless company. By the time someone is ready to become a client I’ve already given them a boatload of valuable free information, and they already feel as though they have a personal connection with me via the emails.

Laura is the only person I met who can explain Twitter in a way that the average person can understand and, better yet, use to market a business. I eagerly wait for her weekly email to come! I can’t wait to see what else she has to offer!
