While some businesses are leveraging partnerships to build teams, many entrepreneurs are spreading their message to an audience willing to listen. To do this, they create stories of value, and then the magic happens – they start to speak.
According to Lynn Daniel, president of The Daniel Group, her company will be taking a two pronged approach to marketing this coming year. Through search engine optimization, direct mail and prospecting phone calls, Lynn hopes to find new markets outside of their strengths. The second will be to solidify their presence within the arena in which they are currently strong.
To strengthen The Daniel Group’s position within their current market, Lynn intends to to speak at several industry specific conferences. She already has some speaking engagements booked and is actively seeking others.
To give a successful speech that will generate leads, Leanne Hoagland, a Results Coach with Advanced Systems, offers seven tips:
1. Identify 3 to 5 current business issues or trends
2. Write out your response to each issue
3. Find a quote or a short story as your lead in that reinforces your message
4. Practice your speech with friends and family
5. Deliver your speech to local civic and professional organizations such as Rotary, Chambers, etc.
6. Ask for feedback by providing a quick evaluation. This action also serves to secure contact information.
7. Develop a speech sheet including your picture, titles of your speeches and information about you.
Leanne also mentions these words of caution that will destroy the credibility that businesses are seeking: “Do not, (I) repeat do not, use the speech to sell your products or services. If you provide value during your speech, you will have people coming up to you after the presentation wanting more information.”
The cost of giving a speech is nothing. In fact, Leanne is paid to speak professionally. By following these tips, she now gets paid to market her business to an audience eager to buy from her.
